Attached are a couple of articles that highlight the tension and division between the Eastern and Western parts of Ukraine. As we saw in the film, "The Orange Chronicles," Ukraine is divided between the Western pro-EU camp and the Eastern pro-Russia camp. These articles are fairly recent, particularly the latter - having occurred in the past week. We get to see how passionate the politicians believe in their cause, whether pro-EU/pro-Russia - and get to see some Taiwan-styled parliamentary fighting going on. Quite dramatic yet somewhat entertaining.

A brawl, in parliament!? Definitely passionate! I didn't get to see the film as I was busy both times so it is interesting to see some of the related subject matter, thanks!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how a policy about national language can have such a strong response. Hard to know exactly how to get a fair, representative and of course CIVILIZED democracy in Ukraine. Much could come down to whether Ukraine wants to be European or still close to Russia. These slides below show a bit about how energy security has affected foreign policy and as a result could effect Ukraine policy. Will Ukraine continue to be held ransom by Russia and Putin or is it Ukraine who is to blame for their own problems?
