what does democracy look like

  1. It was a reasonably well written article, however I find it odd how as an American she lists healthcare as an essential part of democracy. She says "Thus a strong civil sector that provides basic services such as health care, poverty alleviation and infrastructure development is a crucial component of real democracy".

Because of the fact that the American health care system is privatised it makes me wonder if by her standards the United States would qualify as a democracy.

She does say at the end of her article however that no society has achieved true democracy which does include the United States, my question is how many of the things that she lists are neccessary to make up a real democracy? All or just some of them?

  2. she says that " In order to have a government of, by and for the people, a true democrat must be concerned with the wellbeing of the entire populace, and thus a humanitarian first" so this makes up a real democracy.
