After our brief discussion of the Black Lives Matter movement in class today, I found this article (published yesterday) to be an interesting and extremely relevant explanation of the relationship between the American state and the protesters. I thought that Vanessa Williamson's discussion of state-sanctioned violence in America related nicely to what we were talking about regarding repression in democratic states. If anyone is interested in a the history of the origins of BLM movement, and a more general discussion of the repressed are responding to state oppressors, this is worth a read.
