The most bizarre coup attempt
On May 1st a very bizarre coup attempt began in
Venezuela. This podcast and article explain what happened.

OCTOBER Sign a contract for the coup, signed by Goudreau, Rendón and Guaido.
o
NOVEMBER- plan falls apart, Rendón and Guaido “cut
ties with” Goudreau.

MAY 1st- Report about Goudreau hired
to help overthrow Maduro, soldiers training in Columbia ETC

MAY 1st (Also)- Plan to overthrow
Maduro launched, but Rendón
and Guaido thought the plan was off. Which it was- but a strange and impossible
coup attempt occurred?

WHAT actually HAPPENED-60 men on
fishing boats go from Columbia to Venezuela, get caught offshore. 8 killed, 13
arrested. Goudreau puts out video+ Twitter. Maduro goes on state TV, with US ID’s
and claims this a big US and Columbian supported the plan

The whole thing seems stranger than fiction and like a really bad joke.

ReplyDeleteOne thing I would say is that this is not technically a coup (which is an attempt to overthrow the government led by insiders, not outsiders) but an insurrection.
So if the uprising comes from outside of the government it cannot be called a coup?
DeleteCoup - a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.
Insurrection - a violent uprising against an authority or government.
They just sound so similar!
Well, people call things in all sorts of ways in everyday language! But if it's a matter of technical language, a coup is an illegal seizure of power by insiders, whereas an insurrection is the same but by outsiders.
