You have nearly achieved freedom. One week remains, and due to your excellent work covering the readings and gathering data for the regime classification exercise the class stands at 67 points. You have a chance of getting fully two thirds of the exam questions! But remember democratization is fragile - and coups are always possible. Be alert!
This week we will bring together threads from the last two or three weeks of the course to finish our discussion of the conditions under which revolt leads to more or less succesful democratization (since revolt often doesn't end with democratization). I will also bring course and teaching evaluations.
I have updated the data analysis for your regime classification essay here and here. (Nothing major changes - some late data was added, which changed the status of Venezuela and added a few new countries).
No one is required to do an EBP this week (unless I explicitly gave you an extension). But you can still write on the blog, and any posts until Thursday 5pm count for your regular blog contributions score. Mostly, we'll be discussing ideas from the readings of the last three weeks, but some interesting reading is available on the aftermath of democratization, for anyone interested:
