Freedom House has named Myanmar, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Somalia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Sudan and North Korea as the world's eight most oppressive regimes in its' recent study of global degrees of democracy.
The study also highlighted the oppression felt in Chechnya from Russia, and Tibet from China.

The rates of 'not free' regimes have increased slightly from 18% to 22%, while regimes considered 'partially free' have fallen from about 30% to 20%.
Is the developing world moving slowly towards democracy or in a pseudo democratic direction?
