30 years after the Khmer Rouge devestated Cambodia, one of the senior members of the Maoist revolutionary group is facing justice in a UN backed tribunal (which includes Dame Silvia Cartwright). Kaing Guek Eav, known as 'Duch' to fellow Rougists, oversaw one of the regimes' most infamous torture camps, S-21, in which thousands of Cambodians were murdered in attrocious ways.
Eav has already made a personal appology for his actions, saying that he didn't want the job, but after being given it, was forced to act in the regimes' interests in order to protect his family.
This plea for mercy will be unlikely to save Eav from a hefty jail sentance or worse
