I saw another blog post on here detailing how Russia's censorship laws prohibiting misinformation about the war with Ukraine hides the true authoritarian nature of the laws. This shows how censorship is truly a double edged sword. The prevalence of 'fake news' lead to real life consequences, such as Donald Trump's attack on Haitian immigrant communities in Ohio, falsely stating they are eating dogs, which has led to a rise of online and physical hate crimes. Things of this nature should be stopped, but with misinformation laws being penned into legislation, who is to say how far it will go?
