Thailand has some of the strictest lèse-majesté laws in the world (anti monarchy defamation laws). Despite Thailand being a constitutional monarchy, the legislature upholds these laws and strictly enforces them. This article states that during August 2024, a relatively new party called Move Forward attempted to suggest amending these lèse-majesté laws. This did not bide well and the entire party was removed by the current legislature due to the suggestion to amend the lèse-majesté laws being deemed a 'constitutional threat'.
Did I mention that every single lèse-majesté complaint gets promptly investigated? Every single one!
In fact, Thai people trust this defamation report system so much that they even report people they dislike, regardless if they've defamed the monarchy or not! This is because they know how seriously the government takes these reports and what better way to get some quick, effective revenge on some enemies? Long live King Vajralongkorn!
