- Media freedom
- Are the media free to report on what they wish to? Or, are the media restricted by the government?
- Is the rule of law present and exercised correctly within democratic and non-democratic countries
- Is electing the judiciary via the executive democratic
- Separation of powers, to what level are they being independent of each other? Is there abuse of power?
- Are the checks and balances being upheld to hold each branch accountable?
- Are these checks and balances constitutionally imbedded?
- Is there freedom of speech? Or to what extent is speech controlled?
- What level of connection does the ruler/PM have with the army?
- How much control does the army have over the government?
- Law and order
- Are the courts/authorities issuing consistent punishments?
- Are the punishments being issued reflective of the crime and circumstances in question?
- Is there a limitation imposed to restrict the time frame a person can be in power?
- If so, are they able to change this law to extend their duration in power?
- Is the public free to protest? If not, are there legal regulations set in place to prohibit protesting?
- Academic processes
- Are academics free to publish their findings and thoughts without state intervention?
