Recently in Bangladesh the civilians saw the downfall of their leader Sheikh Hasina after she ruled the country for 16 years. This article published by Aljazeera is intriguing as it details how Sheikh came to power, highlights some of her actions over time that should have been seen as a warning sign to the public and how she fell out of power recently.
The article details how as a dictator one should never underestimate the peoples power if they wish to remain in control of their regime. This is reflective of our in class learnings as we have covered regimes, dictatorships, people power and the need for a dictator to never underestimate their people if they wish to remain in control. Singh - Sheikh Hasina seems to have been a good example of something a bit more specific - competitive authoritarianism.
